Chauvinism?

Thane tells me, “Mama, you’re not a toy.”

“You’re right! I’m a Mama. I’m a person,” I said.

“You’re not a person! You’re a girl!” he tells me.

The peanut gallery, known around here as Dave, added, “Thane harkens back to the old way of thinking.”

Further discussion indicated that boys are people, but girls are girls.
